Advanced Skills

The workbook is split into 2 sections.

You must show that you can perform all of the skills in the core section:
 
      A.1     Plan diets and implement feeding regimes
      A.2     Monitor and maintain stocks of feeding and bedding
      A.3      Monitor and recognise health and welfare
      A.4     Deliver basic health care treatment to horses
      A.5     Prohibited substances awareness
      A.6     Prepare horses for public appearance
      A.7     Clip horses
      A.8     Prepare for transportation
      A.9     Care for horses during and after transportation
      A.10    Mentor less experienced staff
      A.11    Introduce young horses to equipment
      A.12    Plan, allocate and monitor yard duties
      A.13    Maintain healthy, safe and productive working conditions
      A.14    Make recommendations for improvements to work activities
      A.15    Identify and reduce risks to safety in your workplace
      A.16    Time management
      A.17    Full driving licence (exemption for medical reasons)
      A.18    Experience evidence
           
And need to choose any 6 of the add on skills:
 
      AO.1     Exercise and improve performance using lunging or long reining
      AO.2     Contribute to training from the ground and backing
      AO.3     Tack up horses for specialist work
      AO.4     Ride horses for exercise and recognise fitness levels
      AO.5     Ride and lead horses for exercise
      AO.6     Care for horses after strenuous exercise
      AO.7     Care for horses at competition/hunting
      AO.8     Care for horses after competition/hunting
      AO.9     Stay over at competitions
      AO.10    Drive a lorry
      AO.11    Prepare driving horses and vehicles for road use
      AO.12    Carry out road driving manoeuvres
      AO.13    Attend to horses and vehicles after driving


In addition you can apply for an Advanced Stud Groom workbook. To achieve this endorsement you must complete all of the following skills:

AS.1 Contribute to getting the mare in foal
AS.2  Maintain Stud Documentation
AS.3 Attend to the mare and foal during foaling
AS.4 Care for the mare and foal
AS.5 Handle and present stallions under supervision
AS.6 Maintain the care of stallions
