BGA AREA REPS.
The British Grooms Association is proud to have some passionate members who want to see the Association grow and strengthen. They have formed a group called the BGA Area Reps and each takes responsibility for promoting the BGA in their local area and on the show circuit.
NORTHERN SCOTLAND |

Debbie Ambrose lives in Arbroath in Northern Scotland. She is a Freelance Professional Groom. "Becoming an Area Rep for the BGA will help me spread my passion and enthusiasm to others here in Scotland. I want to make them aware of the BGA and what it can do for them. I want to tell grooms in Scotland that their hard, dedicated work does not and should not go unrecognised and they can now be heard, thanks to the BGA." |

Joanne Hooker is a Head Groom at Oldbury Farm Stables, a livery yard in Great Wakering, Essex. She works alongside the Yard Manager to run a yard of 27 liveries ranging from shetland ponies to show hunters.
"Being a groom entails a huge amount of hard work, dedication and a vast range of knowledge. Gemma Willetts works as a freelance groom in and around the Essex and Hertfordshire Borders. Rhona Glynn works as part time on a small livery yard and is a freelance competition groom. It is still her greatest ambition to be able to groom for someone at Badminton Horse Trials. Beckie Smillie has worked with show jumpers for the past 18 years. As Head Groom for Lisa Hales she is responsible for her yard, horses and training development of junior staff. Beckie handles their top class horses such as Arko III and Azertyuiop. "The BGA provides me the opportunity to provide some practical advice to others. This will help to develop grooms of the future for our industry. Being a groom is a way of life not a job and if you really want to succeed and experience the international circuit like I have then horses have to come first every time. Hannah Sharp is a freelance groom who also works at a race yard in Cheshire. She rides and handles the lively race horses and has enjoyed discovering the racing industry. Kate West is Head Groom for Gary Docking Carriage Horses. Kate spends much time breaking horses and ponies, driving and preparing them for national and international shows. "Having been in the equine industry for 13 years, I know how grooms can be treated. When the BGA was created I immediately signed up, as I was pleased to have a medium from which our voices could be heard as one. I hope to raise awareness of the BGA, and to encourage many other grooms to sign up, as we have to stick together and support each other." "Becoming an area rep for the BGA will give me chance to spread the word about this fantasic organisation. I think it's great that we now have a association of our own. Being part of the BGA makes me feel proud to be a groom. I think having our own association helps us to be recognised as professionals. I think it is essential for all grooms to join the BGA." |
