Sarah Hollister, is Deputy Manager for the Team of Animal Husbandry Grooms. She is proud to be a BGA Members and tells us about her job:

"I’ve worked at HorseWorld for eight and a half years now and in that time the society has changed enormously.

When I started I wasn’t very experienced and HorseWorld was just a retirement home, the main role of my job was the general day to day care of the horses, so mostly mucking out and takin
g hay and feed out to the horses at grass.  Gradually I learned more and the society also started to re-home some of the horses that were able to be ridden or would make good companions.

Now we are a well established cen
tre for the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of horses, ponies and donkeys.  I’m now deputy manager for the husbandry grooms and my job has changed a lot (although unfortunately I still have to muck out!).

With about 120 horses to care for from all sorts of backgrounds every day is different, and often challenging. Lots of animals come in with illnesses or injuries but are also traumatised or feral, this makes caring for them a specialist job that takes lots of patience. The best part of my job is definitely being involved in the rescues, nothing beats that feeling that we’ve whisked them away from a life of cruelty
and neglect. And then to see them happy and healthy about to go out to a new loving home makes you feel like you’ve really achieved something worthwhile."
