Pro active BGA member Clive Milkins (picured right) has won the coveted Bucks Sport Award, ‘Coach of the Year 2008’ for his work and dedication as a Riding for the Disabled Trainer at South Bucks RDA.

Of the 150 UK disabled riders registered as athletes twenty are regularly coached by Clive, and at the centre he coaches over 50 disabled riders a week in their therapy sessions.

Clive has trained and coached disabled athlete Sophie Christiansen and her horse from a therapy rider to European (2005), World (2007) and Paralympic Champion.  Sophie won Paralympic bronze in Athens, 2004 and double gold and silver at this year’s Paralympic games in Hong Kong with Clive accompanying and supporting her every step of the way. Clive has travelled abroad to all her competitions not only as her personal trainer but also as her groom.

For the past 15 years Clive has worked with disabled riders at all levels, and has seen the centre grow, “We have the long term goal of developing a fully international para dressage academy at South Bucks RDA,” says Clive, “Where we are continuously improving the facilities and have the track record as the training site for the London Olympics.”
