The FEI has launched its new award scheme, FEI Awards, and we were delighted to learn that they include a GROOM AWARD!
This is actually the second year that the FEI have recognised the importance of the groom - the 2008 winner was our very own super groom Jenny Ellis.
This year the FEI Awards in five categories :
Athlete of the Year to a rider, driver or vaulter who has shown exceptional sportsmanship and prowess;
Rising Star supported by HSBC to a rider between the ages of 14 and 21 who has not only demonstrated significant talent but also love of the sport, commitment and practice;
Development supported by Alltech for a development project, individual or organisation that has shown exceptional skill, dedication and energy in expanding the sport.
Against All Odds to celebrate a para-equestrian rider of any age who has demonstrated that disability is no hindrance to sporting proficiency.
Groom of the Year to the often uncelebrated yet important person who works behind the scenes.
Nominations are open to everyone and can be done online through the dedicated website
www.feiawards.org.
The deadline for nominations is 17 October. The winners, who will be selected by a panel of international experts chaired by the FEI President HRH Princess Haya, will be invited to receive their awards at this years gala dinner in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 19 November.
So if you know a groom that is worthy of International Accolade, please nominate them!
