Team Fredericks have taken their Advanced Certificates in Equine Transport (ACET) under the guidance and supervision of Haddon Training.

As the end of the season for many competitors is now in sight, Haddon Training has been inundated with telephone enquiries from all over the country, questioning the implications and requirements of these qualifications.

Lucinda felt that taking the qualification was a useful experience - “there are always things to learn however experienced you are. A test day like today makes you think about the things that could go wrong, and reminds you why you do things in a certain way – everyone needs to be more aware of what a hazard transporting horses can be”.

Likewise Clayton feels it is essential that horses are well looked after in transit. “Now that there are much longer trips undertaken in order to compete, it is essential for the welfare of horses that anyone driving or accompanying them really knows what they are doing – this cannot be under-emphasised.”

The British Horseracing Education & Standards Trust (BHEST) has developed these equine transport qualifications in line with Defra guidance in order to assess the skills and knowledge of those transporting horses in connection with an economic activity. Haddon Training based in Marlborough, Wiltshire, is a BHEST approved centre.
