The BGA wants to get more grooms licensed to drive a horsebox and this is the last opportunity for you to sign up for the funded YDS training!

 

 

If you work in the equine industry and need to transport horses in vehicles over 7.5 tonnes you will need to have a Category C licence. You can get government support for LGV training for young people under 21 under the Young Driver Scheme (YDS). 

 

 

The scheme will not provide funding for under a 7.5 tonne lorry (C1 Licence) , only for a Class C and C+E Licence.

 

The LGV training is not a funded scheme itself, but can be combined with a Driving Goods Vehicles Apprenticeship in order to obtain funding. This funding covers the completion of the Driving Goods Vehicles NVQ and key skills in application of number and communication. The level of funding may be sufficient to contribute towards the cost of driver training but this would have to be negotiated with the training provider. There is usually some level of employer contribution required in order to complete the Scheme.

 

The YDS is a strict framework of training that builds on integrating the Driving Goods Vehicles NVQ and driver LGV instruction. The funding is not available to those that are already on an apprenticeship or who have a degree.

 

 

New entrants must sign up by March 2009. So please don't delay or you will miss out.
