‘Don’t be alone, pick up the phone’

Racing Welfare has introduced a new 24 hour helpline for all those working in or retired from the horseracing and thoroughbred breeding industry.

By calling 0800 6300 443 at any time, callers can access confidential, impartial advice and guidance, by trained Welfare Officers.  It does not replace the usual emergency services or a face to face meeting, but if someone is concerned about anything, then there is a real person not an answer machine, at the end of the phone.

Cedric Burton, Chief Executive of Racing Welfare, said: "We are being supported in this new initiative by the British Horseracing Authority and the Injured Jockey’s Fund, who all see this as an important extension to the services we already provide.

"To help promote the 24 hour helpline, we are giving away mugs featuring the freephone number. We are encouraging the industry's employers to contact their local Racing Welfare Officer who will be delighted to visit their yard or stud with a supply of free mugs and discuss over a cup of tea with their staff, the services which Racing Welfare can offer."

Contact details for your local Welfare Officers can be found on the website www.racingwelfare.co.uk
